Honey Poached Pear

3 simple steps to make a brekky batch to keep handy for your favourite Yousli. Pop them in the fridge in the poaching liquid, they last for a few weeks and get more fragrant as they rest. Just chop into them as you need them. They’re delicious just by themselves or with a fresh dollop of natural yogurt and drizzle of honey.


6 cups water
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup sugar (we use coconut sugar)
1 cinnamon stick, roughly broken in half
4 brown pears – peeled & cut in half through middle
A Squeeze of Lemon Juice



Step 1: Sprinkle each pear with lemon juice to avoid browning after peeling

Step 2:  Add honey, sugar and 6 cups water in a saucepan over medium heat and stir until sugar has dissolved. Increase heat and simmer for 5 minutes.

Step 3: Add pears. Allow the pears to simmer, covered, in the liquid for 15-20 minutes or until tender. Turn occasionally to ensure even cooking.

Once pears are cooled, put them aside in container (for brekky batch) with some of the remaining poaching liquid, the longer it sits in liquid the more fragrant it will become. You can flavour your poach with just about anything, vanilla bean, ginger, star anise, orange, lemon, the ideas are endless.
